Another Earth

Another Earth, starring the beautiful Brit Marling and and also starring William Mapother, who many recall as Ethan from television series Lost. The film seems to ask the question, what would it be like to meet the other you. If you met yourself, as yourself, what would the experience be like. Would you enjoy yourself? The movie has a different vibe than this though, it is dark and dreamy, taking a unique path to say what it wants to say. The story is led through a young girl struggling with a life-changing mistake and knowing there is only one way to correct it. She killed a man's wife and child while drunk driving, and while peering up at the sky looking for "Earth 2". She ends up having a strong desire to go there to be the first group to visit this Earth 2, very fitting as it was the reason she crashed in the first place. It made me think of my own life and how peoples stories can so drastically change within one moment. Every path is thought to be rigid and planned, and then is just the opposite. The film has several "gem" moments that I enjoyed. One was the inclusion of an elderly Indian man who works at the HS in which she is a janitor. He tells her that to free her mind is the only way to have a peaceful mind. It made me feel like he was so much happier as a janitor than most people on Earth, because he had the gift of the mentality. He ends up blinding himself and making himself deaf on purpose. I think that mere act itself can be discusses and thought about in many different ways, and it is a piece of the film I am glad was included. It is one of those great film moments that leaves you wondering what the original intentions were for including it, and leave you to think of it on your own. This aspect has its strongest moment in the final scene of the film, that leaves you as the viewer wanting to go to bed to dream the continued story up. One of the other strong scenes of note is when the public realizes that Earth II is actually a mirror image of Earth I, as the woman making first contact is talking to herself. She asks about what she bought at the gift shop in a specific moment in her life, and writes the answer down to show to public if it was the same or not. It was. The feeling of this scene was almost a bit scary and very sci-fi esq., especially in lieu of the dark drama feel we get from the rest of the movie.

Great Film. Could say more about it. Worth the watch, but I don't think its a film for everyone.

Gossip Girl Hopefuls

Speaking of Gossip Girl... prior to the pilot for the television series featured on CW, i had my own vision of what the characters from the Gossip Girl series would look like.

The O.C. Throwback

The other night I couldn't find anything to watch on TV, so I decided to begin watching Gossip Girl from episode one. I had always been hesitant to watch the show as I read the series of books as a tween, and was always displeased as to how far they strayed from the books. I gave in and watched episode one, to much delight. I believe one of the guys who works on the show, Josh Schwarz, is the same dude who made The O.C. big back in the day....oh the The O.C. A favorite of mine when it was popular, I watched it religiously for seasons 1-3 until it went downhill. I have yet to watch season 4.

Anyways I stumbled upon some graphics I made of photos of the O.C stars, the fantastic four!!

Ombre Pink-Coral-Orange Nails

Summer is the time to have the most fun and versatility and unique combinations on your nails. I like to use multiple colors, usually bright ones to keep in interesting!
Since the whole "ombre" fad is in right now, and so is the color coral for this summer, I thought I'd combine the two ideas into my nail art!

This is the result !!

I used 3 colors:
  • Middle Finger: Tart Deco by Essie
  • Light Pink ( ring and pointer) : cute as a button by Essie
  • Orange/Red (pinky and thumb) : Forever 21 Love & Beauty nailcolor
2-3 Coats each, followed by Essie topcoat.

Can you tell I like Essie?

Love and Tranquility,

Lors
